Write Me a Letter

All these years I've dreamed of sainthood,
Read the black book, tried to live so good.
Pledged my soul just to serve you,
Gave up my gifts, moved to the woods.
Left the only one I could have married,
Went looking for you in my car,
You gave Francis a talking crucifix,
But all I got was a bleeding heart.
So write me a letter if you want me,
I'm not searching after you no more
Don't want your dreams around here to haunt me
From now on me is all I'm living for.
My love I'm sorry if I hurt you.
Told you I would make it up some how,
Came crawling back here on my knees to you,
But all you say is you don't want me now.
Ain't no more ink in my ball-point,
I sent the last rose I could afford,
My throat is sore from singing songs to you,
I'm so in love I'm getting bored.
So write me a letter if you want me,
I'm not searching after you no more
Don't want your dreams around here to haunt me
From now on me is all I'm living for.
Must be some reason why I'm living,
There's nothing for this world I wouldn't do,
So I'll just keep right on a singing,
Until my next assignment comes through.
Ain't gonna look for no more employment,
Ain't gonna look for no more love,
Just waiting for someone around here to want me,
Whether it's a woman or the good lord above,
They can write me a letter if they want me,
I ain't searching after them no more
Don't want their dreams around here to haunt me
From now on me is all I'm living for
Yeah from now on me is all I'm living for.
